Care Visa Protect — embassy-ready PDF in minutesfrom €0.85/day (up to 92 days)
One missing field on the certificate is enough for the German embassy to refuse the appointment — and re-booking takes 4–12 weeks at most consulates. The seven fields are non-negotiable: name, period, scope, ≥ €30,000 cover, repatriation, no on-certificate excess, EU/EEA insurer.

Three rules every visa applicant in Germany should know about the insurance proof:

    1. 1Match the lane to the visa type: Care Visa Protect from €0.85/day (up to 92 days) for Schengen C-visas; Care Economy for D-visa bridges; Care Expatriate for long-stay residence permits. Mixing them is the most common rejection reason.
    2. 2No on-certificate excess: Deductibles in the AVB are fine; an excess shown on the certificate itself is rejected. Care Visa Protect prints €0 self-pay at point of treatment by default — no edits needed.
    3. 3Bring the PDF AND a printed copy: Most consulates accept the PDF by email; a few posts still want a stamped colour printout. Care Economy from €30 / 30 days (up to 2 years) is the standard bridge for D-visa categories.

Insurance proof for the German visa — the six rules the consulate actually checks

Quick answer: "What does the German embassy want to see on the insurance certificate?" — Seven fields are checked on every appointment: insured name (matches passport), exact validity period (covers entry to expected return), geographic scope (all Schengen states for C-visa, Germany for D-visa), ≥ €30,000 medical cover, repatriation clause, no on-certificate excess, EU/EEA-admitted insurer. Care Visa Protect, Care Economy and Care Expatriate are pre-formatted to all seven fields.

    • Insured name on the certificate must match the passport exactly — including transliteration
    • Validity period covers the entire stay (Schengen: full trip; D-visa: full residence permit length)
    • Geographic scope: all Schengen states for C-visa; Germany for national D-visa
    • Minimum medical cover ≥ €30,000 (EU Reg. 810/2009) plus repatriation clause for medical & remains
    • Certificate shows €0 self-pay at point of treatment — AVB deductible is accepted, on-certificate excess is not
    • Insurer must hold EU/EEA admission — HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung AG (Hamburg) qualifies

Avoid the mistakes that can delay your application

    Schengen proof missing?

For short Schengen stays, choose insurance that meets the €30,000 minimum-coverage requirement.

    Short stay or longer stay?

Care Visa Protect fits many 1–92 day Schengen visits; Care Economy may fit longer or more flexible stays.

    Wrong insurance can cost time

Before your embassy appointment, check that the proof matches your visa type, dates and destination.

    Multiple entries planned?

If you travel more than once, check the multiple-entry option and the annual day limit before applying.

What happens if a single field is wrong — appointment refused, 4–12 week re-booking

One wrong insurance choice can cost you money, time and your application deadline

A medical incident can become expensive fast — but the wrong certificate can also delay your visa, enrollment, residence permit or work start.

    🏥

    €500–€1,500

    Emergency doctor visit

One urgent doctor or emergency-room visit can already create a painful bill — before tests, medication or follow-up treatment are added.

    🏨

    €2,000–€10,000+

    Hospital treatment

If observation, surgery, overnight stay or specialist treatment is needed, costs can quickly move from hundreds to thousands of euros.

    Schengen proof must be clear

Your certificate should clearly show the required coverage amount, Schengen validity, travel dates and repatriation benefits.

    • Wrong or incomplete proof can delay your visa, enrollment or authority process.
    • Cheap home-country policies may miss the exact coverage, dates or repatriation wording required.
    • The cheapest policy can become expensive if it is the wrong proof for your situation.

Before you apply, check: coverage amount, validity dates, destination area and repatriation cover.

FAQ — Insurance proof, embassy format and which lane fits your visa

    Frequently Asked Questions

Does the embassy accept a PDF certificate by email?

Yes. German consulates worldwide accept the PDF certificate issued by HanseMerkur / Care Concept and similar EU/EEA-admitted insurers. A few posts (e.g. parts of West Africa, Central Asia) additionally request a stamped printout — bring both to be safe.

What is the minimum cover the embassy requires?

For Schengen visas, EU Regulation 810/2009 sets a minimum of €30,000 medical cover plus repatriation, valid in all Schengen states. National D-visas follow § 5 AufenthG: the insurance must be 'sufficient' — in practice the same €30,000 floor is expected, with longer duration.

My visa appointment is delayed. Does my insurance still match?

The validity period on the certificate must cover the entire planned stay. If the appointment slips, ask the insurer for a date change — Care Visa Protect and Care Economy can be re-issued before travel start at no extra cost.
